Bright Summer Home in the Hamptons

Wouldn’t it be nice for your family to have a beautiful summer retreat from everyday life? That’s just the purpose of this bright, summer home in the Hamptons. This home is a great combination of traditional furniture and modern colors. It’s perfect for a young family on summer vacation, and it’s large enough for the whole family and all of their guests.

The Exterior

Upon first glance, this summer getaway is a very traditional Dutch Colonial home. The beige siding is timeless and will never go out of style. The adorable blue shutters give this home a little more personality and color. The Hamptons are usually known for being upscale and exclusive, but this home is situated right on the waterfront so there are plenty of family activities around.

The Living Room

This living room follows the same structure as the exterior. It has very traditional details like the crown molding, rounded high ceilings, and fireplace. By painting all of these details white, the designer, Amanda Nisbet, draws your attention down to the modern accessories. She uses several different navy blue patterned fabrics in this room and just a hint of pink. The lighting fixture mimics the look of a seashell, without being too literal.

The Dining Room

This room is perfect for a dinner party or board game night. The mid-century modern dining table is surrounded by matching navy blue chairs (with a tiny bit of red trim on each of them!). The old-fashioned box light that hangs above the table also has a surprising red trim on the inside. The playful red “squiggles” on the otherwise plain curtains connect the traditional color palette back to the funky navy blue rug on the floor.

The Butler’s Pantry

On the way to the kitchen, you could walk through the Butler’s Pantry. This room is full of floor-to-ceiling shiny blue cabinets. These cabinets could have looked overwhelming in such a small space, but instead they seem luxurious. This is the perfect place for the grown-ups to make an adult beverage after the kids have gone to sleep. We love the shiny silver details on the cabinets because they make the space feel more special and modern.

The Kitchen

White kitchens are definitely the in-style design of today. Although almost every newly-designed home has one, we never seem to get sick of them! This kitchen feels bright and airy and seems to have room for the whole family. The designer cleverly installed the flooring from the rest of the home on the ceiling in the kitchen as well. It was a great choice to use the shiny white countertops in this kitchen so the ceiling didn’t feel as heavy.

The Family Room

Right off of the informal dining room and kitchen you will find a unique family room. The ceilings in this room are very high and show off those beautiful beams. The designer decided to use a cream color in this room, instead of the stark white color to make the room feel warmer. The sofa in this room really steals the show, though. This sofa was custom made for the family and is obviously an unusual color- pink! The designer carried this pink accent color through the trim on the arm chair and in the pattern in the rug. If your paint color is neutral, why not go for some pink furniture, just for fun!

The Bedroom

This is just one of the many bedrooms in this Hamptons summer house. The ceiling in this room is again very beautiful and unique. The shape of the arch over the window is repeated several times in this room’s design. The dramatic arched headboard and the curved pattern on the fabrics mimic this great architectural feature. The chartreuse wall color is very bright, but when used as an accent color, it isn’t overwhelming. We love the combination of this bright green with the more traditional blue.

The View

We usually only discuss interior design on our blog, but we thought this view deserved notable mention. The inside of the Bright Summer Home in the Hamptons was beautiful, but that view is simply to die for!
