When a network, such as HGTV chooses a designer to watch, we listen!
The Overall Winner in 2014 for HGTV’s Fresh Faces of Design was Caitlin McCarthy. This designer took a small space and turned it into a work of art using her chic style and smarts.
Caitlin McCarthy isn’t new to the design world. Her firm, Caitlin & Caitlin Design Co. offers consulting services to help their clients create uniquely luxurious homes within their budget. Now, we’ve pulled together a few ideas from this in-demand firm’s award winning loft to help you get the same luxe appeal in your home.
Here are some of our favorite design takeaways from the award-winning Los Angeles loft designed by Caitlin & Caitlin Design Co.
Don’t Shy Away From Gold Fixtures
Many homeowners continue to shy away from gold fixtures. They fear they look too old, too worn out, and too antique. But vintage gold fixtures are making a comeback in a big way. Their elegance adds a richness to the room.
In Caitlin’s contest winning loft, she used gold fixtures throughout. From lamps and mirrors to the headboard and frames, gold is sprinkled in each room. Even with the gold accent pieces, her rooms look contemporary. Adding gold to your home can achieve the same sophisticated appeal.
Mix Rustic and Modern
Yesterday’s decorating advice warned you about mixing modern style with rustic appeal. Many homeowners were advised to stick to one look or another instead of trying to blend two opposite techniques.
That’s a thing of the past – at least when it comes to Caitlin’s designs. She makes the mixture of rustic and modern look effortless. In the award-winning loft’s bedroom, for example, Caitlin mixed sleek black and white with a rustic brick wall. The results added a refined look with comforting charm.
Use Light Strategically
Lighting accentuates décor in a unique way. The places you choose to light are the places that get the most attention.
In Caitlin’s loft, she lights up the closet filled with designer shoes and purses. Instead of piling these in a dark corner, she uses the homeowner’s apparel and accessories as décor. It’s a fun, unique touch.
In your home, you can add these same unique twists too. By focusing on gold touches, varying textures, and strategic lighting your rooms will come to life with a warm glow.
