What happens when you mix fashion and design? You get Kara Mann.
Based in the hip city of Chicago, with operations out of the equally trendy New York City, Kara Mann is located in the heart of the design world. Since 2005, when she began her firm Kara Mann Designs, she has wooed her clients with her luxuriously modern designs.
With work in both residential and commercial spaces, Kara’s focus puts her in a league of her own.
This week we’re highlighting that brainpower, edgy eye, and keen intellect for design in Kara Mann.
One way you can tell that Kara is among the elite interior designers is her spot as one of Vogue Magazine’s 100 go-to decision makers and opinion leaders. She was chosen based on her distinguished eye for culture, fashion, and décor.
In addition to being on Vogue’s list, Kara is also on Western Interiors and Design’s ‘The List.’ This list pulls together people who have helped reshape the image of the American West. Although Kara works in the Midwest and on the East Coast, her designs have permeated the country making her a prime decorator to earn this distinction.
Other notable mentions: Kara was named part of Metropolitan Home’s ‘Design 100,’ one of domino magazine’s ‘domino 10.’ She also won the Chicago chapter of Fashion Group International’s ‘Rising Star Award’ for her work in the Chicago community.
Tips to Steal
Now it’s your turn to steal a few tips from this highly acclaimed designer. Here are a few of our favorites.
Display your favorite pieces with purpose.
Kara suggests that homeowners stop hoarding and get rid of the items they don’t love or use. Doing so, she says, will free up space to display and admire the pieces that you are crazy about making your home more unique and decorative.
Accessorize for the seasons.
Want to give your room a fresh new look but don’t want to invest the time or money in transforming your space? Kara suggests switching out your decorating accessories. In the summer, use lighter tones, she suggests. In the winter, cozy up your room with darker colors and deeper textures.
Geography plays a big role.
The area where you live should inspire your décor. If you live on the lake, don’t try to incorporate mountain decorating schemes. Use the colors around you to inspire your interior.
