Sophisticated Modern Home in San Francisco Bay Area

This Sophisticated Modern Home in the San Francisco Bay Area seamlessly blends together many different design styles. The designer, Ann Lowengart, thought of every single detail in this home, from the modern rugs on the floor to the dramatic lights on the ceiling. This home has a neutral color palette, which ties in the traditional design style. The furniture is made up of very modern shapes and fabrics to bring in the contemporary design style. There are also many organic and luxurious details throughout the house that show off the rustic and glamorous styles respectively.

The Kitchen

The bright white kitchen is the first stop on our tour of this Sophisticated Modern Home.  The tall white cabinets go all the way to the ceiling to maximize storage space and their glass front doors make the room feel more open and airy. Many people can sit in the modern banquette in the sunny breakfast nook for Sunday brunches. We love the way the designer paired the modern metallic table with the rustic lighting feature above.

The Butler’s Pantry

If you thought the kitchen looked a little short on storage space, think again! There’s a huge Butler’s Pantry right by the breakfast nook which offers even more cabinet space. There’s also a wet bar and wine fridge in the Butler’s Pantry, so this home is ready for a dinner party at a moment’s notice. The beadboard paneling is a beautiful vintage touch, while the shiny silver handles add a bit of glamour into this simple room.

The Dining Room

The Dining Room really embraces the mid-century modern style, but still incorporates some rustic touches. The gold metallic wallpaper on the statement wall really adds warmth and goes perfectly in this Sophisticated Modern Home. The navy blue dining chairs are a nice touch of color in this neutral home. The real star of the show is the rustic dining room table with its natural edges. To top it all off, the designer added an interesting Edison bulb lighting fixture that is both rustic and modern.

The Living Room

The first thing we saw when we looked at this room was that dramatic chandelier on the ceiling. It is made up of driftwood and crystals and is a strange, but wonderful blend of rustic and glamour. It was a great choice for this living room because the tall white walls, ceiling, and trim could have looked sterile without it. The modern and traditional furniture below really balances out the chandelier above. We love the bold area rug because it seems to bring the whole room together and adds a pop of color.

The Office

This home office is very simple and clean. The black-and-white photo collage on the wall is a great way to add personality to the space. It can easily be rearranged and changed whenever you want! The metallic legs of the desk make this space feel more glamourous and they reflect the natural light from the outside. If we had an office like this, we wouldn’t be getting much work done, because we’d always be staring at that amazing view!

The Sitting Room

This room is a bit more traditional in style compared to the others. The warm brown color of the furniture makes this room feel cozy and comfortable. Many rooms in this home, including this one, have tables with metallic legs. This reoccurring theme really ties the different rooms together and gives them all a common element. We love that wall of windows in the back that shows off the beautiful views outside.

The Master Bedroom

The Master Bedroom in the Sophisticated Modern Home keeps the metallic furniture theme going. This mirrored canopy bed is a beautiful statement piece in this otherwise traditional bedroom. The room feels fancy and expensive because of the shiny bed in the center. The pair of mid-century modern chairs by the windows are traditional elements that warm up the room.

The Girls’ Room

The owners of the home have two young daughters and the neutral color palette of the home just wasn’t going to work for them. The designer of the home chose this bold hot pink and gold wallpaper to be the inspiration for the room. The pink color was then brought in with accent pieces throughout the space like in the bed frame, desk chairs, and curtains. The white bedspreads and fluffy white stools tone down the space so the hot pink color is not overwhelming.

The Boy’s Room

The owners’ son needed a cool room to call his own. The designer gave him the perfect room for a pre-teen boy. The faux wood wall offers a masculine and rustic, yet modern touch to this bedroom. This wall can be created with laminate flooring as well (click here to read about how to install laminate on walls). The bed frame is a traditionally neutral color, but in a modern shape. We like the added colorful elements from the blue shade and orange pillows.

The Family Room

This is a great gathering space for the whole family. The large sectional couch offers both seating and style in this room. The statement wall is a family photograph of the kids running at the beach. In this room, the designer brought in the metallic elements in the picture frame on the wall and in the unique, copper colored side table. The other side table brings in the rustic style with its natural wood look.  We love the basket-weave stools by the giant coffee table and the retro lighting fixture above.
