How Do I Calculate Square Footage?

Calculating square footage is a very simple equation; it does not involve any specific symbols. To calculate square footage, you will multiply the length of the room/area by the width of the room/area. You can measure this from the inside or outside of the room, be aware when measure from the outside that the area may be smaller than what you calculate.

This is the simple equation: Length (ft) x Width (ft) = Square Footage

You will want to include 5-10% waste, this will factor in for any extra cuts, errors or damage. Calculating waste is also a simple equation:

5% Waste: Square Footage x 0.05 = Waste amount + square footage = Final Square Footage

10% Waste: Square Footage x 0.10 = Waste amount + square footage = Final Square Footage
