Can I nail laminate down?

You absolutely cannot nail down a floating floor. Laminate is composed of wood fibers, which will expand and contract with temperature changes. If you do, the seams will buckle from expansion. That is why you leave the 1/4" around the outside. By nailing down the floor, it will not be able to expand, and will buckle in the middle.
