Brooke Shields is a former supermodel whose knowledgeable fashion sense carried over into excellent style when it comes to decorating her own home. The successful actress and spokeswoman invited Better Homes and Garden into her Long Island, New York cottage, which she shares with her husband and two daughters.
She decorated her beautiful home all on her own. Here are a few of our favorite features:
Love of Color
Shields told BH&G that he decorating philosophy is that “a little color goes a long way”. This philosophy is 100% brought to life in her home. She skillfully sets a neutral backdrop for color by painting the walls on the first floor a happy, buttery yellow color.
In the living room she also uses neutral colors of cream or off whites in the window coverings, lamps, sofa, coffee table, and rug. She then introduces pops of color by making fun choices in the fabric used on the chintz accent chairs, accessories, sofa pillows, and artwork.
She carries this same style of neutral backdrop with pops of color throughout the rest of the main floor.
A Laid Back Feel
While the home is beautifully decorated, we love that there is a laid back, somewhat beachy, feel throughout. It makes it feel very homey, which is perfect for raising a family.
The breakfast nook is a perfect example of laid back. It hosts a long table with a built in bench on one side and wooden woven chairs on the other. This looks like the perfect space for everything from family dinners, to homework, and family game nights. Blue and yellow are the pops of color found here.
The kitchen is beautifully done in all white with warm wood floors. Shields told BH&G that she “loves an all-white kitchen because it’s clean and bright, the feel she wanted throughout her dream beach house”.
The back patio is perfect for entertaining. Its covered with a wooden pergola roof and has a trellis with flower boxes on the side. It overlooks the lush green backyard and garden where she grows herbs and tomatoes.
