Congratulations on your new laminate flooring! Before you lay your first plank or tile, you need to install the underlayment.
Underlayment is one of the most important steps. When installed correctly, it can help your floor last for longer and make your home more comfortable.
Most people doing their own installation of laminate flooring install the underlayment on their own. It’s easy and can help you cut your costs by as much as 10%!
This guide will show you how to install Kronoswiss Provent Vapor Underlayment. We will provide you with easy-to-follow steps to make your installation as straight forward and enjoyable as possible. With these instructions, your project will be a joy to complete.
Where To Use It?
Depending on the type of subfloor, you might need to adjust which type of underlayment you use. Kronoswiss Provent Vapor Underlayment can be used on either a wood or a concrete subfloor.
Get Started on the Right Foot
We want your project to be fun for you. The best way to ensure you have a great experience with your underlayment and flooring installation is to have all of the supplies on hand and ready to grab when you need them. Before you start, make sure you have the following supplies for your project.
- Enough Provent Underlayment
- Flooring
- Broom or a Shop Vacuum
- Tape
- Utility Knife
Step 1: Tidy Up Your Subfloor
Dirt, dust and debris all accumulate on subfloors. Before you begin, make sure you do an adequate job of cleaning your subfloor so that you have a clean surface to install your underlayment on.
Step 2: Double Check the Quality of Your Subfloor
Once free of debris, dust and dirt, you have a good line of vision to inspect your subfloor for any damage. Be sure to look specifically for cracks, holes, protruding objects, unevenness or any other type of damage.
Step 3: Let’s Do This!
Once you verify that your subfloor is in perfect working condition, you’re ready to get started! To begin, unroll the underlayment with the Kronoswiss logo facing upwards.
Step 4: Leave a Small Gap
It’s important that there is room for the air to circulate. Leave a 2 to 3 mm gap between the floor strip and the wall.
Step 5: Cut the Underlayment
Cut the first section of your underlayment once you have finished unrolling it. Use your utility knife for the most exact cut.
Step 6: Begin Your Installation
With the first layer of underlayment down, you can begin installing your flooring. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to install the flooring. Continue until you have a foot of underlayment left at the edge.
Step 7: Unroll the Next Row
Unroll the next row of underlayment. You will want to start with the overlap section facing the room.
Step 8: Touch the Edges Together
The edges of the underlayment should be butted together. This will form a strong seal to keep your flooring and subfloor safe.
Step 9: Double Check for Overlapping
Some DIY installers overcompensate and overlap the underlayment edges. Don’t do this. Double check that the edges of your underlayment are touching and not overlapping for the strongest installation.
Step 10: Tape the Rows
Secure the two pieces of underlayment together by taping your rows. This will prevent them from slipping and sliding, which could cause your subfloor to be exposed or your underlayment to overlap.
Step 11: Continue the Installation
Continue to install your flooring over the underlayment. Repeat the previous steps until your project is complete.
It’s easy to install Kronoswiss Provent Vapor Underlayment if you know how. With these instructions, it is our hope that your project is a joy to complete. When you’re done, you can sit back and look at the flooring you installed on your own with pride.
