Laminate flooring plank width is referring to how wide or narrow a plank is. This measurement can range from narrow planks being about 3 inches to wide planks being over 6 inches. Selecting the right plank width is an important part of your flooring project. Narrow planks are ideal for installation in small spaces, where they will make the floor appear larger, since it appears to have more planks in it. Wider planks look great in large spaces where they give a broad and complete feel, without being too busy or overwhelming.

A great example of a wide laminate flooring is Classen Visiogrande Screed Light. It width spans 11.10″! This is because Classen was going for a realistic cement flooring look. In order to achieve this, they made the planks much wider than you would normally see on a wood design flooring.
However, some wide plank designs can be deceiving. Take for example, Kronoswiss Zermatt Beech, it is a 7.6″ width plank, but the design is of a 3-strip plank. You should also take the plank design into consideration when purchasing flooring. Just because the laminate flooring plank width is above 6″, doesn’t mean it’s always going to look like it.
So you may still want a narrow plank design, but you want beveled edges. With a wide plank that has a narrow strip design, you are limited to only a square edge flooring. A narrower plank style allows you to have micro-beveled edges and a narrow plank design.
