The recent issue of Where Women Create features our dear friend and customer, Karen Roberts, and features flooring from Bestlaminate used in her charming she shed photography studio. Back in 2018, Karen Roberts and her husband, Greg, constructed a She-Shed photo studio in their backyard, where she has captured countless memories behind her camera. This magazine showcases Karen’s journey to becoming a photographer, as well as her beautiful work space!
Karen’s Story
Karen Roberts has been a photographer for 25 years and discovered her passion for photography at an early age. She majored in Psychology at Kennesaw State University, but was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr virus leaving her with permanent chronic vertigo. Not too long after, she returned back to college in hopes to pursue something more fun and artistic.
After enjoying photography in high school, Karen decided to take a photography course in college. Little did she know, this would spark her passion for life. Karen’s professors could clearly see the potential in her from the start. She fell in love with every aspect of photography like utilizing fashion, locations and props. Karen noted that dealing with her chronic vertigo was tough, but it ultimately led her to discovering her passion for photography. Without her condition, she may not have found her true calling.

The Bestlaminate team partnered with Karen several years ago after she installed our flooring in her home and photo studio! Karen is a true joy to work with and between her beautiful design style and fun ideas, we have had the opportunity to participate in many collaborations together. From seasonal photoshoots, to dog-testing vinyl flooring, the work created together is always special to us. Karen’s style has evolved over the years as well as her floors. Durable and waterproof flooring has always been important to Karen as she has two Maltese pups- Sailor and Salty! Karen started with a popular laminate floor, and has transitioned her home to a beautiful gray vinyl floor. The beauty of floating dloors – they’re easy to DIY install and uninstall!

Backyard She-Shed Photography Studio
For Karen and her husband’s 20 year wedding anniversary, he built her a beautiful back yard she-shed photography studio. We partnered with Karen by providing flooring for the space! This studio features rustic shabby chic laminate flooring throughout the entirety of the interior, including the walls. Unfortunately, this flooring has since been discontinued. However, this popular style has a vinyl lookalike! The She-Shed has a transparent roof that allows for an abundance of natural lighting that works perfectly for photoshoots!
