Felt Cushion 3-in-1 Underlayment Installation
Felt Cushion 3-in-1 Underlayment provides impeccable protection against moisture, noise, sub-floor imperfections and provides thermal insulation. This underlayment has a self-sealing overlap for installation.
Installing your underlayment is the second step of a laminate installation. Step 1 is preparing the subfloor properly. But first, gather all of your tools and supplies.
Gather Your Tools and Supplies
Before you begin, be sure to have your tools and supplies nearby.
- Standard Foam Underlayment
- Broom or Shop Vac
- Utility knife
- Tape
Begin the Installation
Step 1: Prepare Your Subfloor
Your subfloor should not have any dirt or debris on it when you install the underlayment. This can damage the padding and your flooring. Make sure you have a properly prepared and cleaned your subfloor surface before installing.
Step 2: Roll Out the First Row of Underlayment
Begin rolling out your underlayment with the film side down and felt side facing upwards. The overlapping film should be towards the open room, while the tape side should be towards the wall.
Step 3: Cut the Sections
Using a sharp blade, with scissors or utility knife, begin to cut the row at the end. The felt can be challenging to cut through, so make sure your blades are sharp.
Step 4: Roll Out the Next Row
Follow steps 2 and 3 and begin rolling out the second row. The tape side should be towards the overlapping edge.
Step 5: Butt the Edging
The felt layers should butt up against seams perfectly, covering the film overlap. Do not overlap the felt cushion. The underlayment provides a level surface for the flooring to lay on.
Step 6: Attach the First Two Rows
Cut the second row at the edges with your sharp blade. Lifting up the edge with tape, slowly work in sections to peel the adhesive off and lay the tap onto the film. Apply pressure after pressing the tape to the film.
Step 7: Install Your Flooring
Following the instructions from the manufacturer, begin laying the first row of flooring. We recommend working in sections, laying two rows of underlayment and flooring at a time. Continue these steps until the installation is complete!
